A ROAD used by hundreds of commuters had to be shut for emergency repairs on a collapsed sewer.

Frenchay Park Road, between Stapleton and Frenchay, was closed from 6.30pm yesterday as Wessex Water engineers tried to fix the damage. The road was due to be closed in both directions between Broom Hill and Stoke Lane, and drivers were being advised to find alternative routes.

A Wessex Water statement said: "Our engineers will work around the clock to ensure work is completed as quickly as possible.

"We apologise for the inconvenience this essential work may cause."
