Freeman inspires emphatic Made For Ever win
Bristol Under-18 Combination: Ed Freeman notched a terrific hat-trick as Made For Ever fought back from an early setback to surge to a 7-1 Division I victory over Full Circle.
With the wind in their favour, hosts Made For Ever had a number of early chances, but failed to capitalise, and it was Full Circle who took the lead after 20 minutes with a smart close-range finish by Rydon Caddette.
To their credit, Made For Ever, who had been reduced to the bare 11 players due to injury and sickness, upped their game and equalised when a precise pass from right-back Jack Smallman found Freeman in the penalty area, and his instant control was followed by a fine finish into the corner of the net.
His side were now in control and further goals followed before half-time. A soaring header by centre-back Ryan Barnes, a shot on the run by new signing Ryan Morris, who was set up by fellow striker Joe Stedman, and another decisive finish by Freeman handed them a 4-1 lead.
Made For Ever extended their advantage to 5-1 early in the second half when Morris returned the compliment for Stedman to drive home, although his team were then reduced to 10 men when Morris was forced off with a knee injury.
Despite the setback, further goals followed from Kai Debbonaire and Freeman, who completed his hat-trick with a powerful header from a corner, to tie-up a contest played in great spirit.
In Division A, usual 'keeper Josh Martin stepped into attack and hit a double as Stoke Lane overcame Hanham 4-1. Recent signing Sebastian Hull opened the scoring with a flying touch into the net on his first full appearance and David Brown added a second.
Enjoying his new role, Martin got the third and fourth goals before Joe Bryer scored a late consolation for Hanham.
The win meant Stoke Lane remained fourth in the table, equal on points with second-placed Shirehampton.
In the Gloucestershire Under-18 Youth Shield, Cadbury Heath squeezed past Stonehouse with a 4-3 win.
At the start, Heath were first to every ball and looked like they might run away with the tie, yet it was Stonehouse who took the lead.
A well-taken free-kick by Toby Gardiner hit the crossbar but fell to Ross Lindley to finish.
The hosts piled on the pressure but the Stonehouse defence held firm until four minutes before half-time, when Heath equalised from a corner.
The second half was a nailbiting affair for both teams.
Heath pressed forward but their opponents, now kicking downhill, also looked capable of scoring the vital goals that would see them through.
It was Stonehouse who again struck, when Toby Gardiner put them back in the lead, only for Cadbury Heath to level the scores shortly afterwards.
With 10 minutes remaining, Stonehouse went in front again thanks to a well-placed header from Gardiner, but two Cadbury Heath goals in quick succession ended their hopes of victory.
