Free flu jabs for mums-to-be to protect their babies from falling ill
PREGNANT women in Weston- super-Mare are able to have their flu jab when they go to hospital for their routine scans.
Mums-to-be attending Weston General for their 12-week and 20-week pregnancy scabs will be able to have their flu vaccine at the same time.
The World Health Organisation has advised that pregnant women are the highest priority group for flu immunisation. It is known that the flu vaccine is effective against severe disease and that the vaccination of a pregnant woman provides immunity to her baby through the transfer of her antibodies and protects the baby for the first four to six months after birth.
Pregnant women can have their vaccine during week-day clinics at Weston General until the end of January.

Weston Area Health Trust director of Nursing Irene Gray said: "We encourage all pregnant women to have the seasonal flu vaccine, and would be delighted to see as many women as possible taking up this service.
"While this service is offered by GP practices as a matter of course, we are very pleased that this year, we are able to offer an additional opportunity to access the vaccination through our ante-natal screening and ultrasound-scan clinics."
In Southmead hundreds of people lined up to receive their vaccination and a cup of tea.
Greenway Community Practice held a special session on Saturday giving people in at-risk groups their jabs while also being able to get advice from a range of organisations such as Age UK.
Now in its eighth year the surgery's seasonal flu vaccination session is the biggest in Bristol.
