More than 250 people are expected at an annual summer fun day in Henbury.

The Crow Lane fun day in Barnard Park is organised by local residents in conjunction with the Safer Bristol Partnership.

The event on Saturday, August 22 will be opened by Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Brenda Hugill at noon and continue until 4pm.

There will be a wide programme of free events including a bouncy castle, rodeo bull, face painting, henna tattoos, a workshop for woodcarving, live music, fancy dress for children and gardening competitions.

There will also be a raffle and stalls, games and sideshows and a children's petting zoo staged by a local community farm.

Local PCSO Abby Elliott-Taylor will demonstrate balloon modelling and new PCSO Mike Bettel will be dressed as a clown and entertaining the crowd.

Cheryl Coles, community safety officer, who worked with the local residents to organise the event said: "The summer and Christmas fun days have been a real success for several years.

"Activities aimed at kids and their families are fantastic opportunities to build confidence, they enable people to come together and engage in the more positive side of the community."

Councillor Mark Weston, councillor for Henbury, added: "Henbury and Brentry fun day also allows the community to pull together and show that good things happen on Crow Lane."

Pat Lee, who is an active member of the residents group, and has lived in Henbury for nearly 57 years, said : "By far the majority of local kids are great and I'm really pleased that now there are so many more activities for them to enjoy. Events like the summer fair have had a really positive effect."
