Frampton Cotterell have unveiled a new portrait of former president and chairman Derek Mayer, who died in February.

Painted by local artist Pete Nutt, it takes pride of place in the club room at Frampton's Crossbow House base. And there are plans to add plaques on either side, honouring Derek's contributions on and off the field at both Frampton and previous club Broad Plain.

The prop made more than 500 appearances and served as treasurer for 11 seasons at Broad Plain before joining Frampton, where he played in the front row with sons Paul, Tim and Simon, and also acted as chairman for eight years.

The two clubs faced each other in April for the Derek Mayer Cup, raising money at the same time for prostate cancer charities. And the trophy is now at stake whenever they meet – at whatever age or level.

● Harry Hone (Avonmouth), Ian Clark (Cleve), Mike O'Reilly (St Mary's) and James Cloake (Clifton) have been named in the Gloucestershire Under-18 squad to face Berkshire at Marlborough College on Sunday (noon).
