Frampton Cotterell end winless streak in Gloucester Premier

Frampton Cotterell claimed their maiden win, beating Hucclecote 31-3 to climb off the bottom of Gloucester Premier.

The South Gloucestershire outfit had lost their previous nine league matches, but tries from James Wilkinson, Alex Giles, Phil Murphy and Mike Ashwin, plus four conversions and a penalty from Robbie Wotherspoon, guided Frampton to victory. Flanker Joe Bennett was the man of the match.

Southmead finished strongly to claim a 38-20 victory at Gloucester Old Boys with tries from Tim Davies, Leon Oakes, Anton Welling (2), Mike Webb and Gary Sposito. Danny Cotterell kicked two penalties and a conversion. Old Colstonians won 14-0 at Whitehall thanks to tries from Dave Moss and Grant Williams and two George Burrows conversions.

Wing David Wright, who came off the bench for Bristol United at Harlequins a week last Monday, and flanker Karl Venn crossed the whitewash in Bristol Saracens' 30-12 defeat at Old Richians, with Ian Werritt kicking a conversion.

In Gloucester One, Chipping Sodbury are up to fifth after winning 24-7 against a young Dursley side. Phil Player and Neil Knight crossed before Knight's nephew Jake Lewis sealed the win with a try. Steve Romanowski landed three conversions and a penalty.

Old Bristolians won 27-22 at Ashley Down thanks to tries from Lyndon Davies (2), Rupert Hyde, Johnny Biggins and Adam Waldram. Simon Hawkins kicked one conversion. Andy Morrison (2) and Paul Glen, who also kicked a drop goal and two conversions, touched down for the hosts.

Richard Starr and Chris Greening scored tries and Mark Burns landed a conversion in Aretians' 24-12 defeat to Painswick, while Bishopston lost 21-11 at Cheltenham Civil Service. Jon Martin kicked two penalties and Matt Screen touched down for Bish.

In Gloucester Two, Kingswood kept the pressure on leaders Bream with a 27-0 victory at Cheltenham Saracens with tries by Chris Phillips (2), Ian Kirley and Steve Trevelyan. Kirley added a penalty and two conversions.

Old Elizabethans consolidated fourth place with a 32-20 victory at Cainscross thanks to tries from Guy Garnett (2), Rob Franklin (2) and Greg Hingley. Dom Swann slotted a penalty and two conversions.

Gloucester Three leaders St Brendan's won 34-0 at Wotton with Rich Hawkridge, James Honeyfield, James Douglas, Rich Patton and Greg Turner touching down. Ben Chilvers kicked three conversions and a penalty.

In Somerset Premier, Bristol Harlequins won 31-12 against Midsomer Norton. Ben Payne, Ian Lane, Mark Ralph, Aaron Cook and Scott Manning touched down with Barry Stone kicking two conversions.

Fourth-from-bottom Winscombe threw away an 18-17 lead to lose 27-18 to 14-man and second placed Tor. Their tries were scored by Matt Drew, Dan Parfitt and Robbie Suik. In Somerset One, leaders St Bernadette's beat Wiveliscombe 14-3. Ollie James crossed the whitewash and Chris Holley kicked three penalties.

Powerful centre Dean Ashfield scored a hat-trick as Gordano ran in 13 tries to crush Old Culverhaysians 81-5. Other scorers were Mark Vowles (2), Leon Blackman (2), Ben Harvey (2), Aaron French, Rob Dyer, Tim Coughlan and skipper Marcus Stratton. Coughlan one of five colts in the starting line-up, kicked eight conversions. Nailsea & Backwell won 38-7 against Broad Plain with tries from Mat Watkins (2), Jason Patch, Bradley Kemp, Scott Goodall and James Stayley. Rob Baker and Nathan Dowling kicked a conversion each.
