Fox should focus on his chosen position
I would like to congratulate Ashley Fox on being elected as an MEP and wish him well for his five-year term of office.
However, I was surprised to read (Evening Post, June 9) that he believes he can continue to serve the whole South West region (which I understand includes Gibraltar) from Brussels and also continue as my local councillor in Westbury-on-Trym.
Mr Fox has also suggested that being an MEP would keep him away just three days a week. I would have thought that, if he is to do the job properly, it will take him a lot more than that. It is difficult to see how he could attend many council meetings whilst representing us effectively in the European Parliament.
Mr Fox has chosen his political course, and it is with Brussels and not Bristol. He should do one job well, not two jobs badly.
I am sure I am not alone in not wanting an absent and part-time councillor for the next 12 months. It is time for a by-election and for the people of Westbury-on-Trym to elect a new representative.
Brian Clay,
Westbury-on-Trym.
