Focus on the bigger picture
In the 1990s there was a popular self-help book by Richard Carlson called, Don't Sweat The Small Stuff – Simple Ways To Stop The Small Things Taking Over Your Life. I believe this book should be required reading for all Bristol councillors. A great deal of energy and resources go into the small stuff, creating problems for business and residents.
The changes to Whiteladies Road are a perfect example. Meanwhile the big stuff, like a workable road and public transport system, a good standard of state education and decent sports and entertainment venues, seem never to happen. We will not reclaim Bristol's reputation as a vibrant city by making pavements a few feet wider, making the roads more difficult for traffic, emergency vehicles and cyclists.
