Luke Fletcher took 4-38 for in only his second County Championship Division One match for Nottinghamshire as 13 wickets fell on the first day at Trent Bridge.

Somerset chose to bat in seamer-friendly conditions but were soon regretting that decision as they were skittled out for 138 before tea, Ryan Sidebottom taking 3-32 and Andre Adams 3-30.

But Nottinghamshire also struggled in their reply under gloomy skies with Charl Willoughby (2-27) leading the Somerset fightback.

As bad light brought an early close, the hosts had moved on to 55-3, 83 runs behind, with Bilal Shafayat on 19 and Adam Voges on eight.

Somerset were in trouble right from Fletcher's fourth ball of the day when he had Arul Suppiah caught behind without scoring off an inside edge.

Former England man Marcus Trescothick looked far from comfortable in hitting a couple of sketchy boundaries and was next out having made 13.

Fletcher nipped the ball away from the left-hander off the pitch and Adams took a smart slip catch.

The 20-year-old then comprehensively bowled James Hildreth to leave the visitors on 17-3.

Australian skipper Justin Langer made 11 from 58 balls but was undone by extra bounce from change bowler Adams, looping a catch to Mark Ealham.

Somerset were soon 53-5 as Adams trapped Craig Kieswetter lbw for five just before lunch, and on the resumption Peter Trego (4) feathered an edge to Chris Read, giving Adams a third wicket.

Zander de Bruyn and Omari Banks came together in a seventh-wicket stand of 68 and seemed to be edging Somerset back into the game.

But Sidebottom returned to remove Banks for 28, sparking the loss of the final four visitors' wickets for just nine runs.

After bowling the West Indian off an inside edge, he trapped Ben Phillips lbw with an inswinger and had De Bruyn caught behind by Read.

David Stiff (9) was last out in the 60th over as Fletcher returned, edging another slip catch to Adams.

But Somerset's Charl Willoughby found plenty of swing in the final session, trapping Alex Hales for a duck in his first over and later Samit Patel (11) in similar fashion.

That was either side of Mark Wagh's dismissal by Phillips for 10, caught at slip by Hildreth after a loose drive.
