A decision to switch the date of the British Milers' Club Cross Country Championships staged on the Downs, in Bristol, to Sunday, November 22 was confirmed this week.

The fixture, which will host the 50th anniversary of the Mike Sully Trophy, and also incorporates the 10th Gemma Butler Bowl, was originally scheduled for November 15, but organiser Mike Down said they had been forced to make the move due to a fixture pile-up.

"It became apparent that there was a big clash of fixtures on the weekend of the November 14 and 15," said Down. "The British and Irish Masters International is on that weekend, along with a Westward League fixture, the English Schools' Cup regional championships and the McCain Cross Challenge in Gateshead.

"For that reason, we have decided to push the event back by a week to allow more people the chance to take part. It is also the week before the European Championships and would be an ideal warm-up for athletes preparing for that event."

The multi-lap, spectator-friendly event offers races for all age groups, from 1k for under-11s to 3k for seniors and veterans, and, if conditions are good, an excellent test of leg speed ahead of the major winter championships. Cash prizes are also on offer in the senior races.
