RUNNERS taking part in this year's Flora London Marathon to raise funds for Penny Brohn Cancer Care at Pill are being given a check-up by experts tomorrow to ensure they are in good condition for the event.

The charity will be one of hundreds around the country to benefit from the millions of pounds raised by the marathon which takes place on Sunday, April 26.

Professionals from Whiteladies Road-based running specialists Moti will be on hand at Penny Brohn from 11am to analyse running techniques, provide nutritional advice, check kit and offer advice on individual training plans.

The aim of the day is for the runners to see how their fundraising will make a lasting difference to the lives of people with cancer.

Chris Roberts, 28 from Bedminster, who is one of the runners, said: "This is the first marathon for me and the training is quite hard work, especially the eating healthily part over Christmas.

"At the moment I run eight to 10 miles with each training session and I'm hoping to run the marathon within three-and-a-half hours.

"I chose to run for Penny Brohn Cancer Care because my partner has lost relatives to cancer and we wanted to raise money for a local cancer charity.

"My fundraising is going well so far. I have a few events planned with my local pub and at work so I'm set to hit the target."
