A fisherman got his van stuck in sand at Burnham-on-Sea while trying to launch his boat.

Mark Draper had gone out for a day of fishing on Easter Sunday but his van got stuck in the soft sand at 7.30am.

Unable to free the vehicle, it became swamped by the incoming tide.

A tractor from Burnham Boat Owners' Association was called to the scene and a winch was used to pull the stricken vehicle free.

Simon Stroud, the club's secretary, said: "The van's wheels got stuck while Mark was trying to launch his boat for a day's sea fishing.

"This morning's tide was a high spring one, so it came in very quickly and the water level reached the top of the van's windows before we managed to pull it free.

"Mark is a member of the club and he was just unlucky. We were happy to help him. He still went off for his day's fishing, so I hope it was worth it."
