Firefighters were called out twice to the same block of flats in Standfast Road, Henbury, to unrelated incidents involving a ground-floor bin room and a 14th floor flat.

It is thought the bin-room fire, just before midnight on Friday, was started deliberately.

Crews returned hours later when food left on a cooker in the flat overheated.

The man who lived there, thought to be in his 40s, had fallen asleep. He got out of the building and called the fire brigade before being taken to hospital as a precaution.
