A man who was horrified to learn of the possible closure of Portishead's Open Air Pool while enjoying a day out there with his family has made a film about the seafront landmark and posted it on the internet.

Stuart Walsh, aged 29, and his partner Angela, 28, of Woodhill Road, took their eight-week-old baby Sonny to the pool this summer and discovered the council was proposing to close it.

After spending hours splashing around in the sunshine, Mr Walsh, a salesman, decided to put together a film about the pool and post it on the internet.

The four-minute film, which is posted on YouTube, features footage of people using the pool, views across Battery Point and the coast and shots of the landmark diving board.

Since the movie was posted on the web, it has received more than 50 hits.

Mr Walsh said: "We had a super day at the pool and initially I was just filming us enjoying ourselves.

"While talking to other people at the pool we discovered it was under threat of closure and we were horrified.

"I have always had an interest in film making so when I got home I decided to put a film together about the pool and put it on the internet for everyone to see what a wonderful facility it is.

"Hopefully this film will act as a permanent reminder of how much the pool is valued and enjoyed by the people of Portishead and the surrounding area."

Mr Walsh, who has lived in Portishead for 20 years, used the pool when he was a youngster.

He added: "I used the pool when I was young and I want my son to be able to do the same.

"Once it is gone, it is gone forever and that is a frightening prospect.

"The Portishead pool is an important part of the landscape and should stay that way."
