YOUR report on the despoilation of the land on the south side of the Rovers ground ("Trees axed and accusations fly", Post, May 4) presented no more than a bland and anodyne picture of the precipitous, unannounced action by the functionaries employed by the club to raze what was, until last week, a haven for wildlife.

No mention was made of the intention of the football club to bring tens of thousands of tonnes of earth into this plot in order to build a rampart within feet of the gardens of the surrounding houses which will tower high above them, depriving the residents of any remaining light and privacy.

Your accompanying photograph showed a resident holding a large board.

The board seemed to be blank; in fact, it showed in stark detail the sheer size of this monstrous edifice.

D Baker, by email.

“I for one would rather have a supermarket any day than the stadium, which WILL be 24/7. Get your facts right. Shoppers get car parks. Shoppers dont lob beer cans over walls, etc.etc. Too boring to go over the same old things again and again. Gasheads are just that, full of gas where their brains should be”

“D Baker - BRFC have planning permission. You lost the war against the development. Live with it - BRFC could easily sell the land and you could have a supermarket operating 24/7.”
