Feedback:Incensed by the council
AFTER reading the letter headlined "The planning decision that upset a quiet Bristol street" (Soapbox, October 8) referring to absent landlords, I also have been incensed by council thinking.
I live opposite an end terrace dwelling which applied for planning permission to extend into three flats.
Everyone in the near vicinity opposed the application and so did South Gloucestershire Council on the grounds of safety, as the house is situated on a busy T-junction in Filton.
The landlord then applied for a single storey, which no one opposed.
Again, you would think the landlord would have gone ahead with this. No, he went to a European body, which wrote to all concerned and came to view the situation.
We learned later that this European body had the last word and approved the planning.
Will someone please inform me how something like this can be approved, making a single property into three which means three lots of parking, rubbish and drainage?
But of course, I forgot – the council gets three more council taxes.
Last of all, the landlord buys a property, converts it into three and then retires to his country estate after making a good profit. Just think, if this was a Mini Cooper and someone decided to make this into a seven-seater with all modern gadgets and then sell it, would he be allowed? I don't think so.
So why are these landlords allowed to keep on doing this type of work?
