Feedback: Do Bristol cyclists need a lift up to Clifton?
A lift for cyclists (September 3) to help them to the top of Park Street. What piffle and drivel.
I hope the so-called cycling campaigner and the City Cabinet councillor can rescue some personal credibility by convincing those around them that it had been taken out of context.

Post staff must have known that giving this article front page prominence would justifiably infuriate the majority of readers, but they could be excused if they are suffering from Banksy withdrawal symptoms and scratching for material.
I write not as a frustrated motorist but as a life-long cycling enthusiast (competitive, leisure and commuting) so I feel qualified to offer some advice. When, like me, you find some hills difficult to ride up, simply dismount and wheel your bicycle to the top of the hill. You will not harm the environment or lumber the authorities with enormous implementation and running costs.

● Great idea. It may stop them cluttering up the pavements and, thereby, allow the pedestrians their right of safe access.
But why not fine the arrogant pavement poachers and use the money to build the proposed lift ?
This could pay for the lift within six months to the benefit of both cyclists and pedestrians.

“When walking around Bristol, I find motorists are more of a menace than cyclists. Pavements around here are regularly blocked by arrogant motorists leaving their cars parked for hours or days on end.
As for safety, motorists kill about 40 pedestrians a year on pavements.”

“As a cyclist I think a lift would a complete waste of money. Cycling up hills like Park Street is good for developing muscles, which helps cycling on not so steep hills.
If you can't make it up Park Street, then try to get a bit further up every time you go up. One day you will get to the top, and it will be one of the best feelings in the world.”

“At least a car on the pavement remains stationary, unlike the arrogant cyclists who are "saving the world" by harassing pedestrians.
Just precisely why are cyclists more "green" than pedestrians? Or do they just have louder mouths?”

“Try using the gears, duh! That's what they are for!”

“Totally agree with this 'real cyclist' - what a complete waste of taxpayers money to even consider this costly lift! Will the Evening Post EVER stop fuelling the Motorist v. Cyclist debate? Kindly focus on the real issues, not soundbite journalism!”

Car owners who've parked on the pavement?”
