Federation follows Ofsted praise with exam success
THE Ridings' Federation of Academies is delighted with the results achieved by the sixth form students in its academies at Winterbourne and Yate.
Dr Rob Gibson, chief executive principal, said: "These outstanding results reflect upon the quality of provision provided by the federation sixth form through its two academies at Winterbourne and Yate.
"This success follows two good Ofsted inspections, reinforcing judgements regarding educational standards within the federation."
Students at Winterbourne International Academy achieved 45 per cent of all passes at the grades of A*, A or B.
Some 70 per cent of students gained an A*, A or B in economics, chemistry, history, further mathematics, music, Spanish and art and design.
Students at Yate International Academy achieved a pass rate of 100 per cent, with more than 36 per cent of all grades at A* to B – 12 percentage points up on last year's results. Results in forensic science were particularly strong where two thirds of the students achieved the highest grades.
At Winterbourne, 21 students achieved at least one A* with 13 students achieving at least three A*/A grades, including Sophie Vickery with four A*, Alex Knowles-Smith with two A*s and two A grades, and Tom Dight, Lizzy Lawson and Junaid Qureshi with one A* and three A grades respectively.
Top performing students at Yate were Holly Jones with two A grades and one D grade, Eden Joseph with one A grade and two B grades. Other top performing students include Amie Burridge, Chelsea Walkling and Holly Jones, who have all gained places at universities of their first choice.
Federation Sixth Form students have successfully gained places reading at some of Britain's top universities; including criminology at Cardiff University, engineering at Durham University, history at Southampton University, mathematics at the University of Bath, architecture at the University of Nottingham, geography at the University of Plymouth and business and law at UWE.
International Baccalaureate results for the federation sixth form published in July 2011 were also once again, above the international benchmark.
Winterbourne International Academy principal Rob Evans said: "I am delighted with the improved A-level results this year and believe it is testament to the dedicated hard work of our students and staff.
"These results, together with the earlier International Baccalaureate results, have enabled students to access high-quality undergraduate courses at prestigious universities at a time when such university places are in great demand."
Yate International Academy principal Roger Gilbert, said: "I am extremely pleased with the A-level results this year, but especially pleased for those hard working students who have gained the qualifications to secure their places at the universities of their choice or confirmation of employment and further training."
