Fast start sets up Aretians for comfortable win
ARETIANS Under-12s produced an impressive performance to beat St Bernadettes at Station Road.
The Little Stoke side made a superb start to the game, as they raced into a 25-0 lead. But the visitors never gave in and battled hard in the second half to restrict Aretians to a solitary try.
No 8 Jake Murphy was again in great form for Aretians, as he crashed over for two tries.
Luke Slade, Ollie Owens and Jack Wills also scored tries, while Jonathan Morris picked up the player-of-the-match accolade after making his first appearance at fly-half.
Stockwood Under-12s played their first game of the season against a well-organised Dings Crusaders, who won 58-27.
But the Stockwood coaching team were encouraged by their side's never-say-die attitude, as they continued to chase the game until the final whistle.
Will Beake produced a superb performance, in which he waltzed over for four tries, while Charlie Benney also scored a try for the Sharks.
Broad Plain Under-11s turned on the style at St John's Lane to record an impressive 34-0 victory over Chipping Sodbury.
But the contest was closer than the scoreline suggested, as the visitors backs proved to be a constant threat whenever they got the ball.
Plain's pack set the platform for the win with a series of drives that led to tries by props Nico Hart and Seth Kingston and centres Curtis Welshman and Jo Mathews, who also landed four conversions and two penalties for a personal tally of 19 points.
Dings Crusaders Under-10s took part in a three-way fixture with Keynsham and Kingswood.
Crusaders eased past Kingswood with a 35-0 win, but found Keynsham to be far stronger. They lost 15-0 to them before gaining revenge with a 5-0 victory over the same opposition later in the tournament.
Lewis Chant was voted Dings' man-of-the-match following some superb displays.
Mike Thatcher, Lewis Bullock, Jake Baker, Jack Troot and Steen Maxwell all scored tries for Dings.
Avonmouth Under-9s also took part in a round-robin event involving Chipping Sodbury and Broad Plain.
Avonmouth lost their opening game 1-0 against Sodbury before securing a much-deserved 3-3 draw with Plain.
Frankie Pople, James Crossley-John and Jack Vincent all scored tries for the Shirehampton-based side.
