SKY Sports' Cricket AM programme is bringing its famed Speed Gun to Bedminster's Clanage home on Wednesday evening (5.30pm) in the hope of filming the fastest bowlers in the West.

The event is open to anyone who fancies tearing in off their long run to find out exactly how rapid they are – and also how they measure up against other club quickies. both locally and from up and down the country.

Bedminster official Chris Giles said: "We've all come across bowlers who boast about how quick they are... this is the perfect chance to prove it and see exactly how fast they really are."

The event is free to enter, but bowlers must be aged over 15 and are asked to wear their club cricket clobber.

Bedminster, who play in the Bristol & Somerset division of the Globe Sports West of England Premier League, will be running a barbecue, and visitors will also be able to check out the club's recently extended clubhouse.

These are busy days for Bedminster, who are celebrating 100 years of playing at the Clanage by hosting the world-famous Lashings invitational team on Thursday, July 26.

The guest side will announce its line-up closer to the game, but Bristol-based Ian Harvey, the former Australia and Gloucestershire all-rounder, will be taking part along with Phil de Freitas, pictured, an England all-rounder from an earlier generation.

The Gloucestershire over-50s team will get their ECB Championship campaign under way against Staffordshire at Shirehampton on Wednesday (1pm).

The county's over-60s, meanwhile, are in action against Somerset at Clevedon on Thursday (1pm).
