WHY is it that a week off at home goes so fast? With Sweden finishing on a Saturday last week, it gave everyone who played an extra day at home before travelling to Germany this week for the BMW International Open.

By the time you have a couple of days off to chill out and sort stuff out, it's time to start preparing for the next week, then Monday you are off again. This is a busy time of year on the European Tour with a possible five-week run ahead for me.

Not that I'm complaining. This is a great run of events on some great courses with good fields, which means good ranking points to keep moving back up the world rankings. This week in Cologne it's a really decent course. I played an event here in my first year on tour and the greens were superb, so I'm looking forward to getting out on them and holing some putts.

It's also a nice week as BMW let us take out some of the cars they have at the tournament on to the autobahns, which means some high-speed racing between players. I will definitely be taking out the new M6 as I quite fancy one myself. It's got 100bhp more than the M3 I have now, so it could be a handful, but I'm sure I'll manage. It is not very often you get the chance to max a car, not in Bristol anyway.

Once again it's been a roller coaster watching England in Euro 2012. But I absolutely love it. I had some friends up at my flat last Friday for the Sweden game for a curry, lots of lows, but what a goal by Danny Welbeck to win it. At 2-1 down I think everyone thought that was it, but once Theo Walcott came on he changed the game.

And with Wayne Rooney back for the Ukraine match everyone was saying we would win it. When expectations get that high with the England team, things don't usually tend to work out. I'm writing this before the game hoping that expectations are kept to a minimum for England's sake. I think Roy Hodgson is growing on me a bit, too. The way he has spoken in interviews about the team and what he is doing with them has been impressive. I think it's refreshing finally to have an English manager managing the England team. Well, one that speaks English is good for a start anyway.

I saw that the fixtures for next season came out on Monday with Bristol City away to Nottingham Forest. That tees me up nicely to rip into Lee Westwood and Oli Wilson, both being big Forest fans, after city turned them over last season.

I also invited Chubby Chandler down to the City Bolton game at Ashton Gate. He was hoping to avoid it, but I won't be letting him get out of it now. Easy three points against the Trotters!
