Two fancy dress revellers from Bristol dressed as Spiderman and an Oompa Loompa have been cautioned after a bar brawl at a holiday camp in Devon.

Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the holiday park at Dawlish after violence erupted at about midnight on Sunday.

A spokesman for the force said officers were called in by park stewards who said they had been "set upon" after trying to remove an underage drinker from the bar.

Two people were arrested – a 15-year-old youth dressed as Spiderman and 42-year-old man dressed as an Oompa Loompa from Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – and held overnight.

The spokesman said another suspect was dressed as children's television character Tinky Winky, from the Teletubbies, but was not detained.

He said a crowd of 20-30 people, all in fancy dress, had been in the bar. They are believed to have been staying at the Welcome Family Holiday Park as part of a football club weekend away.

The 15-year-old youth was later released by police after being cautioned for harassment. The 42-year-old man was given a police caution for assault. Both were from the Bristol area.

One staff member said: "It was a case of too much booze being knocked back and then something happened which kicked things off."

A police spokesman said there was "comedy value" in the incident but that it had to be taken very seriously.

"One of the people was clearly underage and the group took offence to them being removed," he said. "It could have been much worse."
