Family restaurant makes Good Food Guide
A family-run restaurant in Clevedon has made it into the latest edition of a prestigious guide book.
Italian restaurant and delicatessen Murrays on Hill Road is a new entry in the Which? Good Food Guide 2009, widely regarded as the most respected restaurant guide because of its anonymous inspections and reliance on customer feedback.
The restaurant has been run by the Murray family since 1985, when it started life as a coffee shop. Murrays prides itself on using local produce, as well as the best ingredients from Italy.
Owner John Murray said: "We are delighted to be recognised by a respected book such as the Good Food Guide.
"We've never done anything differently and we have a good local following but this should give us a higher profile."
Murrays joins a record number of Bristol restaurants in the new book, which is now in its 57th year. The only new entry for Bristol is the Primrose Cafe and Bistro in Clifton, which appears in the guide for the first time.
Although long-established as a daytime cafe, the Primrose has a separate bistro in the evening.
Chef Tara Hofman said she was "stunned" to hear the Primrose had made it into the guide.
She said: "As a chef, it means a lot because, of all the guides, it represents the general public's opinion as much as inspectors'. It's more objective than a lot of guides and it's a respected publication among chefs as well as people who eat out."
Another new entry is Ronnies in Thornbury, run by chef Ron Faulkner, which opened last year.
The Which? Good Food Guide 2009, priced £16.99, is published on September 8.
