Family hit by car in Bristol city centre
A woman and her two children were hit by a car in Bond Street South in Bristol yesterday.
Police and ambulance crews attended the incident, at a pedestrian crossing on the northbound carriageway near the Cabot Circus car park exit, shortly after 3.30pm yesterday.

Paramedics treated three patients – the mother, who trapped underneath the car after being hit and complaining of chest pains, as well as a toddler in a pram who had a cut lip and a tooth knocked out, and an eight-year-old who suffered bruises.
They were all taken to Bristol Royal Infirmary for treatment.
No information was available on the driver of the vehicle, a blue Rover.

“Fair comment from Toger, Brizzle.
I've been driving round town yet again today and have not seen anyone knocked over. Having said that, I've nearly hit a few cyclists this evening who were not sporting lights etc.”

“The Hedgehog, it was a car that hit them not a cyclist.
According to rcgb data, in 2007 646 pedestrians were killed by motor vehicles, of which 55 were on pedestrian crossings, including 9 on zebra crossings.
Of the 646 pedestrians killed, two involved cyclists.
Hedgehog, could you please take your prejudices elsewhere.”

“Ha George nice to see that you too have put cars at No,2 and cyclists at No.6 in your own priorities list. I don't mind being lower down the list than you - I automatically jump to near the top when I get in my CAR!”

“Myself and my child were nearly hit by two cars on the crossing outside of the Arnos Manor Hotel last weekend because I was crossing on a green man but the cars decided to carry straight through down the bus lane despite me crossing correctly.
As a pedestrian I have seen cars go through red lights all the time. For some it appears to be optional to stop.”

“I thought Pedestrians did have right of way regardless because there are no jay-walking laws in the uk? Correct me please.”

“George, that is ridiculous.
Fair enough, a lot of drivers need to understand that pedestrians do have the right of way at a zebra crossing. However, you cant have a pedestrian free for all on all roads and highways. Even a child could work out that this wouldn't be safe. For the pedestrian or the driver/road users.”
