Family concerns lead to rethink over autopsies
PLANS to move coroner post-mortem examinations from the Royal United Hospital in Bath to the mortuary at Flax Bourton have been stopped after concerns were raised by Bath and North East Somerset councillors.
Under the proposals, post-mortem examinations required after hospital deaths would have been carried out at Flax Burton, rather than at the RUH. But a cross-party panel highlighted concerns that the move may have led to more travelling for bereaved families if they wished to see a deceased relative awaiting a post mortem. There were also concerns about the impact on deceased patient storage at the RUH.
