The Christmas Carol Bus swept into Southmead last night bringing the community some early festive cheer.

Despite the bitter cold hundreds of children and their parents turned out to see the bus that was covered in flashing reindeer lights and tinsel.

Normal buses were forced to wait while the carol bus pulled into the bus stop on Greystoke Avenue.

The children could hardly contain their excitement as Father Christmas stepped into the crowd.

Full-time mum, Shauna Bakos, 24, who lives in Southmead, took along five-year-old daughter, Kacey. She said: "The kids love it and it marks the start of Christmas for me. I have been coming down every year."

Cliff Howell, 51, who has lived in the area for 31 years, organises the annual event.

He said: "It's a nice big turnout and thanks to everybody who has made the effort this year despite the weather.

"It's been a hard year in the current climate but hopefully we will be back next year.

"It brings a bit of joy and Christmas spirit to the kids which is the main thing."
