Former Fame Academy star Katie Lewis at Bristol's Next Top Model
FORMER Fame Academy starlet Katie Lewis will be relaunching her career at the final of Bristol's Next Top Model tomorrow.
Katie, who shot to fame in the BBC reality show in 2002, is hoping to make it big as a solo artist with an edgier look and a brand new sound – 'rock popera', combining classical and operatic music with rock and pop.
The 25-year-old will perform two brand new songs at tomorrow's event at the Passenger Shed – Craving the Light and Make Me Invisible – both written alongside her producer and writing partner Jason Flinter.
Katie, who trained as a classical singer before adapting her voice to pop, admits that her new direction will not be to everyone's taste, but she said that she feels confident that rock popera is a sound that's just right for her.
The former Filton College student said: "I hope people will love my new sound and image as much as I do. I feel it represents me perfectly.
"It's very different and a little like Marmite, love it or hate it. But I'm really pleased at what I have achieved so far and am now working towards my first album."
As part of her relaunch, Katie now wants to put together a band and is looking for lead and rhythm guitarists, a keyboard player and drummer. She would also like a female backing vocalist, preferably with some classical training.
Katie's own classical pedigree is impressive, having previously performed as a soloist soprano for the England National Orchestra and at Bristol's own Prom on the Close and the Balloon Fiesta.
For three years Katie was part of a girl band, Unleashed, performing all over the world and gaining experience of the music industry. And for the past year she has been working on developing her new sound.
Katie will be joining Heart FM breakfast show presenters Bush, Troy and Paulina who have been confirmed as presenters for the Bristol's Next Top Model grand final tomorrow.
Musical entertainment will also be provided by X Factor finalist and Bristol's Next Top Model judge Marisa Billeteri.
The 16 who will appear in the final are: Angela Ogborne, Ashley Rogers, Chris Kite, Dale Jones, Jacob Goff, Jane Cheng, Jessie Barton, Lauren Clail, Marcus Chapman, Martyn Bennett, Melanie Spencer, Mitchell Ashmead, Natasha Nair, Ollie Gostlin, Stephanie Aitkenhead and Storm Kennedy.
