Fairfield boys to benefit from using the Memorial Stadium
Bristol Rovers are backing a Horfield school's bid to reach the finals of a national youth competition – by handing over the Memorial Stadium.
The team from nearby Fairfield High School will be using the ground on Monday (5.30pm) when they take on Light Hall School, from Solihull, in the last 64 of the English Schools FA Under-16 National Championships
Fairfield will be representing the Bristol and South Gloucestershire region in the competition after coming through the local qualifiers.
They have already seen off competition from Ashton Park, Bristol Metropolitan, John Cabot Technical College and the City Academy before beating King Edmund School, of Yate, 3-1 in the regional final.
PE teacher Russell Gregory said: "This is the first time a football team from Fairfield has made it to this stage of this prestigious schools competition – and this is a team that before this year had only won a handful of games per season.
"Our star striker Isaac Reid has scored 12 goals in five games to help us get this far.
"It will be a great opportunity for the lads to play at the Memorial Stadium, and we are very grateful to Bristol Rovers for allowing us to use their pitch."
