LEE Robinson is set to quit Bristol and finalise his surprise switch to Leicester within the next 24 hours.

The winger has agreed terms with the Guinness Premiership champions and is on the verge of signing a contract at Welford Road.

He was shown around Leicester's facilities earlier this week and is understood to be the type of back-three player the Tigers want to complete their squad.

Leicester also spoke with Robinson's Bristol team-mate Tom Arscott – and the 22-year-old flyer visited the club for a tour of their training ground last week. But, after speaking with both players at length and assessing their playing attributes, they have opted for Robinson's power over Arscott's finesse.

With the pacy and tricky pair of Horacio Agulla and Lucas Amorosino providing back-up to the Tigers' first-choice back three of Scott Hamilton, Geordan Murphy and Alesana Tuilagi, Leicester see the powerful Robinson as an ideal complement to their existing options.

The 29-year-old – who will become the third player to leave Bristol following their failure to win promotion to the Premiership – divided opinion among the club's supporters during his five years at the Memorial Stadium.

Signed by Richard Hill from Plymouth Albion in 2005, the 17st winger scored 45 tries in 109 appearances. At his best and in full flight, he terrified opposition defences with his direct running, and was one of Bristol's stand-out performers during their ultimately unsuccessful Championship promotion bid.

He scored 12 tries in 24 appearances during the 2009-10 season, yet was criticised at times throughout his Bristol career for the occasional lapse in concentration and failure to maximise his vast potential and raw physicality.

Robinson signed a two-year deal at Bristol 15 months ago – but all of Bristol's players have this week been told to take a 50 per cent pay-cut or move on.
