The former head of Avonmouth car-moving firm Walon has launched a rival firm in Bristol.

John Merry, who has worked as managing director of Walon UK and CEO of AutoLogic, has launched Quantum Automotive Services in Avonmouth.

He has joined forces with a team of industry experts who previously worked alongside him and who together provide more than 150 years of vehicle logistics experience.

The other directors are managing director Steve Berry, technical services director Tim Harms, distribution director Dave Bowes, IT director Colin Williams and key account director Mike Sturgeon who previously worked with Toyota Logistics for 16 years.

Quantum's first phase transporter fleet includes six Volvo FM12 car transporters with Transporter Engineering high capacity 11 car equipment.

The fleet is already moving vehicles for customers such as Gefco, Jaguar Land Rover, and Ambrosetti UK Ltd.

Quantum claims 90 per cent of its cost base is totally flexible and as a consequence customers obtain a strategic advantage over their competitors by paying genuinely lower prices without loss of service or supplier expertise.

Quantum plans to extend the fleet in support of new business with other blue-chip customers, who are joining the company following a sales drive.

Mr Berry said: "In creating Quantum we have taken a totally fresh approach to service and we have not been constrained by any existing legacy issues. Our focus is on the quality and experience of our team. Our service has been fine tuned to ensure it can provide customers with a genuinely lower cost and a highly efficient product."
