Evening Post cricketer of the week winner
David Baker turned in a stunning all-round performance to win himself a cricket bat – and the Evening Post's Cricketer of the Week Award.
In a weekend when players needed to make a century or take six wickets to stand a chance of making it into our Top 30, long-serving Baker accomplished both feats with aplomb.
Playing for Midsomer Norton Methodists in Division Four of the North Somerset Saturday Cricket Conference, he made his maiden Conference ton with an undefeated 110 in his side's total of 190-4, hitting 18 fours along the way.
And he followed that up by taking 6-6 in seven overs with his right-arm medium-fast bowling – clean bowling all of his victims – as opponents Old Bristolians/Westbury IV were restricted to 130-9.
The 60-run victory ensured the Methodists remained joint second in the table, the position the club occupied last season when they obtained their highest finish yet after joining the league the previous summer.
Baker, who is in his 30s, has been with the Methodists since his early teens.
