Adeel Khan has capped a summer to remember by winning the Evening Post Cricketer of the Year award.

The 17-year-old Pak Bristolians off-spinner is the youngest player to receive the trophy.

And Adeel has now set his sights on maintaining his remarkable progress and earning a contract with Gloucestershire.

The Filton College student was the leading wicket taker this season for Gloucestershire Under-17s, claiming 17 victims in six outings, and also became the youngest player to represent the Bristol and District League's senior representative team.

Adeel said: "It's my dream to play as a professional, but I know I have to keep working hard and improving, particularly on my fielding, and become more consistent."

Adeel was presented with his award by Gloucestershire Cricket Board chairman Trevor Crouch at the Evening Post Top 30 cricket gala evening staged at the Old Bristolians Westbury club in Failand.

Bats are awarded each week throughout the season to players producing an outstanding individual performance.

And the Evening Post also donates bats to the men-of-the-match in the Bristol Youth League's age-group knock out cup and league finals.

Adeel, fittingly, was the first bat winner of the season, taking 7-27 to help Pak Bristolians record an 86-run win over Chew Magna in the Senior Division of the Bristol and District League.

Another highlight of his summer was taking 4-28 for the league against their Shropshire counterparts in a six-wicket Cecil Rhodes Cup triumph.

He said: "I know a lot of the batsmen look at me in a funny way when I come on to bowl, as if they're thinking 'who's this kid?' or 'why's he playing in a men's team?'

"But when I start bowling they soon start thinking 'he's more than a kid!'"
