Evacuation over explosion fear

RESIDENTS were evacuated from their homes after a blaze involving a potentially explosive gas cylinder.

Firefighters were called to a van with an acetylene gas cylinder on fire in a social club car park on Frenchay Park Road at 11am.

Firefighters set up a 100 metre cordon around the van, closed Begbrook Lane and evacuated six residents from three homes for fear the cylinder could explode.

Firefighters remained on scene cooling the gas cylinder.

At 3pm the cordon was removed, Begbrook Lane re-opened and residents allowed to return to their homes.
