Europe celebrate a pair of Ryder Cup wins
1776: The St Leger, the oldest of the five Classic races, was run for the first time at Doncaster and won by the 2-1 favourite Allabucilia.
1989: Europe retained the Ryder Cup following a 14-14 draw with the United States at The Belfry – only the second tied match in the cup's history. American Tom Kite registered the biggest individual win in the competition over 18 holes, beating Howard Clark 8&7.

Graham Thorpe pulled out of the Ashes squad on September 24, 2002
2002: Days after being recalled to the England Test squad for the Ashes series in Australia, batsman Graham Thorpe pulled out of the tour.
2006: Europe won the Ryder Cup for the fifth time in six matches with a record-equalling 18 ½-9 ½ victory at the K Club, near Dublin.
2007: India beat Pakistan by five runs in Johannesburg to win cricket's World Twenty20 tournament.
