Entries being taken for College Green races
Entries for the 2009 Bristol Road Miles and Street Sprints around College Green on Saturday, September 5 are now being taken.
This tasty hors d'oevres before Sunday's half marathon has steadily got better and better, and with races for all ages, from Under-11s to seniors, it is a great way to end the track season – or kick off the autumn road racing campaign.
The mile races take place on a safe, traffic-free, multi-lap circuit in front of the Council House. Races for school pupils are in age groups as at August 31, 2009 and are for Under-11s (minimum nine years on the day), Under-13s, Under-15s, Under-17s, Under-20s (on the day), Senior (all male & female), Over-35 women and Over-40 men.
The street sprints are for children aged nine or 10 on August 31.
Prizes for the senior races start at £100 (vouchers or cash to be confirmed) for first place down to £50 for third, with an additional bonus of £50 for breaking the course records of 4mins 13secs (men) and 4:48 (women).
All other mile races will give goods/vouchers to the value of £25 for first to £10 for third, with trophies to the top boys and girls in the street sprints.
Timetable – Mile races: 1.15pm, Under-17s & Under-20 women; 1.25, Under-17 & Under-20 men; 1.35, Under-15 girls; 1.45, Under-15 boys; 1.55, Under-11 girls; 2.05, Under-11 boys; 2.15, Under-13 girls; 2.25, Under-13 boys; 2.50, Senior Women Elite Race (including masters); 3.00, Senior Men Elite Race (including masters). Street Sprints: 2.35, Heats; 3.10, Finals. 3.15, Presentations.

Bristol & West AC runner Kate Reed is keeping her options open over whether to run the Bristol half marathon.
Reed, who made a successful comeback to win the Bupa Great North 10km, in Sunderland, her first race since the Olympics, is also looking at the Hyde Park 5k and the Great North Run.
Olympic runner star Jo Pavey has given here backing to the new Run in England campaign to get an extra 50,000 people pounding the streets by the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Pavey, a life member of Bristol & West AC, gave her support to the launch even though her own running career is on hold at the moment as she and husband Gavin are expecting their first baby in September.
The 33rd AXA 5.5-mile road race, which will be held on Tuesday, September 1 (6.30pm) from the AXA Sports Ground, Station Road, Henbury, will be supporting the Facing Africa charity this year. For more information log onto the website: www.greatwesternrunners.org.uk
Team Bath AC will not be holding their popular August Bank Holiday open meeting this year but have vowed it will be back in 2010.
Mark Searle, of Bitton Road Runners, finished fifth and first veteran over-40 in a time of 1hr 25mins at the City of Bath Triathlon (750m/25km/5km). The next and final race in the Bitton 5K Series will be on August 5.
Clevedon international James Thie did the pacemaking for the 1,500m and the 3000m at the BMC Grand Prix meeting at Solihull last weekend.
Bristol & West AC's Steve Parker at last showed his true form over the 400m hurdles with a season's best of 58.02secs in the Birmingham Games.
Cardiff AC's Michael Johnson made it three wins out of three in the Towpath 10k series but his latest win, in a time of 32mins 37secs, was his slowest yet.
