Engineers help pupils to make bridge replica
CHILDREN at Meadowbrook Primary School in Bradley Stoke built a replica of the Second Severn Crossing with the aid of visiting engineers.
Representatives of Severn River Crossing, Laing O'Rourke and the Institute of Civil Engineering went to the school to work with Year 5 pupils as part of a topic on construction.
Teacher Matt Smith said: "The bridge project has proved to be an integral part to Year 5 learning this term.
"It has provided the children with a hands-on glimpse into the field of construction and has given us a fantastic medium to show how the theory behind bridge building is put into practice."
Head teacher Jon Barr said: "We are very grateful to Severn River Crossing, Laing O'Rourke and the Institute of Civil Engineering for supporting the learning journey our Meadowbrook Year 5 children are on.
"As a school we are committed to making sure our children experience the impact science, technology and engineering has on all of our lives in the 21st century. The bridge project has made an inspiring addition to those experiences."
