Eastville Park hosts Mela 10th anniversary
Hundreds of people headed for Eastville Park for an Asian festival as it celebrated its tenth anniversary.
The family event was a big draw for all members of the community, who enjoyed music, dancing and plenty of food.
Local and international bands were featured at the Asian Mela – which means "gathering" in Sanskrit – as well as Holland-based singer Imran Khan.
The event was also used to launch a new book, More Than a Curry, which explores the Asian community's contribution to Bristol over the years.
Easton-based project Awaz Utoah organised the festival, which had an emphasis on youth.
Founder Simi Chowdhry, of Stoke Bishop, has been involved in community work for 40 years and three years ago received the Lord Mayor's Medal for her contribution to the city.
She said: "It was a fantastic day with an amazing turn-out, which was helped by the sunshine. People from the whole community and all cultures were there. We had our own Bristol's Got Talent show, which was very popular, as well as Bollywood dancers."
Bristol's Lord Mayor, Chris Davies, opened the festival and visitors enjoyed wandering around stalls set up in the park.
