SO once again, East Bristol is first in the queue for budget cuts. The last few years has seen Hillfields Community Centre and Harry Crooks Youth Club closed, Hillfields YC and Kingsway YC under threat of closure due to having their funding withdrawn. The Vassels Centre, a greatly used facility, under threat and now mayor George Ferguson is going to stop the proposed new pool for Speedwell. In March 2010, the then leader of the city council, Councillor Barbara Janke said "Money for a new pool has been included in the council's financial plan for 2011/2012". The report said assumptions about government cuts had been built into these plans.

In October 2012, I attended an exhibition of the plans and was told that work would start in February 201 and the new pool would open in January 2014. The money was in place so what has changed? Will Mr Ferguson tell us where the money has gone? And how much has already been spent on planning, architects and consultants? Let's have our new pool in Speedwell and benefit the whole of East Bristol.
