SOMERSET paceman Mark Turner has had to change his plans for this winter after being called up to join the ECB's young, fast -bowling group.

The 23-year-old, pictured, had intended to play for Justin Langer's club side Scarborough in Australia after Christmas, but that has now changed, after he received a call from the ECB lead fast-bowling coach Kevin Shine inviting him to be part of their fast-bowler development programme.

Turner, who joined Somerset from his native Durham at the end of 2006 said: "I will be going out to Florida to the IMG Academy for a month working with the ECB strength and conditioning coach and learning different techniques. The time out in Florida will be purely fitness based so it is a great opportunity for me and I am delighted to take it."

Turner will be joined by Chris Woakes (Warwickshire), Chris Jordan and Jade Dernbach (Surrey), Jon Clare (Derby) and Maurice Chambers (Essex) and flies to Florida on November 23.

Shine said: "We have chosen six young fast-bowlers who we feel have got the potential to develop into future England bowlers, and putting them on a programme through the winter. This will help to develop them physically as well as developing their game."
