STRIKER Darryl Duffy believes Bristol Rovers' fans have yet to see the best of him – and admits he is still not up to 100 per cent match fitness.

The marksman, a £100,000 signing from Swansea over the summer, acknowledged when he first arrived at the Memorial Stadium that he had suffered from a lack of regular first-team football at his previous two clubs.

And although he has bagged three goals so far this term, he admits he needs more time on the pitch to bring himself up to full speed.

"If I'm honest, I'm still feeling a little bit off the pace and probably need a few more 90 minutes to boost things up," said Duffy.

"The only full game I've played so far was against Carlisle on the opening day of the season, and you can't really replicate match conditions in training.

"We do work hard in training – particularly on Mondays and Tuesdays when he do quite long, physical sessions.

"But it's not the same as playing matches and, hopefully, over the weeks ahead I can get more whole games under my belt to build myself up."

Duffy's goals – he scored twice in the 6-1 rout of Hereford and netted in the 2-2 draw at Leeds – have helped the Pirates assume the mantle of League One's top scorers.

And the 24-year-old Scot believes the club have got plenty of firepower on board with Rickie Lambert and Jo Kuffour also in their ranks.

"Rickie's leading the way and it was good for Jo to get off the mark last Saturday as well. Hopefully he can kick on now," said Duffy.

"Jeff Hughes and Steve Elliott have chipped in with a couple each as well so it's good that all the goals aren't just coming from one player and are being spread out a bit. That can only be good for the team.

"If you look at the table we are down there with a few other teams, but we are the only ones with level goal difference. All the others have minus numbers.

"We are scoring enough goals but as a team we are not doing enough collectively or individually to keep them out at the other end.

"That's something we have been working on and I'm sure we'll continue to do that until we get it right."

Despite notching only one win so far, Duffy insists there is no crisis of confidence inside the camp.

"When you are not winning games it does affect your confidence a little bit, but we still have self-belief so we are not getting down," he said.

"We don't think we have a massive problem and we see what has happened to us as more of a blip than anything because we know we have good players here.

"With the amount of goals we have scored, we should be up the other end of the table.

"Last Saturday summed things up because we hit the bar twice in the opening minutes and then Yeovil went straight up the other end and scored, and that seems to be the way things have been going for us at the moment.

"In the second half, Jo Kuffour did their central defender completely and was away, but the ball hit probably the only big divot in the whole of their half of the pitch, took a massive bobble and got away from him.

"Hopefully those sorts of thing will turn around in the next few weeks, we will get the rub of the green and start turning deficits into wins."

Four of Rovers' next six games are at home, starting with Saturday's clash against Crewe, and Duffy says they have to take advantage.

"We need to start picking up three points at home because that's a crucial thing to build your season around," he said.

"If you can do that, then anything you pick up away from home is a bonus. We have picked up a few draws away at tough places so far but we do have to make sure we get some home wins under our belts."
