Paul Trollope says Darryl Duffy is pushing hard for a recall to Bristol Rovers' attack for tomorrow's home clash with Wycombe Wanderers.

The Scottish striker scored the Pirates' crucial second goal after he came off the bench in their 2-0 victory over Hartlepool last weekend – and also impressed during a 45-minute run out with the reserves in a midweek friendly at Cheltenham.

Though Andy Williams has started the last five games alongside Jo Kuffour up front, Trollope praised the role that Duffy played in killing off Hartlepool as Rovers collected their fifth win in a row on home soil last weekend.

"Darryl gave us a threat in behind their defence that we needed last weekend," said Trollope.

"In the first half our play was in front of their defence and too deep, but Darryl gave us a threat in behind and opened up space in midfield for us to play.

"It has given me a nice headache because Andy has been in good form, but Darryl came on for half-an-hour and gave a little reminder of what he's about."

Rovers may have to make one enforced change with left-back Aaron Lescott rated a doubt. "Aaron jarred his knee in a training session on Tuesday and we will monitor him closely," said Trollope.

If Lescott fails to recover, winger Jeff Hughes is likely to drop back to cover the full-back berth with youngster Ben Swallow – who netted twice for the reserves on Tuesday – in line for another first-team start.

Though Wycombe lie second from bottom of League One, they have strengthened with a clutch of signings in recent weeks and Trollope is warning they will be no pushovers.

"It's still a tough game," he said. "We went down to Wycombe earlier in the season when we were flying high, but we didn't produce and were deservedly beaten.

"That's a little taste of what could happen on Saturday if we are complacent in any way.

"Gary Waddock has added some decent players on loan and they are much improved from the side we saw earlier in the season.

"They have picked up some decent points away from home – notably at Leeds and Southend last weekend – so we have to be respectful.

"We want to keep our winning run going at home. We've been very pleased with it – although as we acknowledged after last weekend's game against Hartlepool, some aspects of the performance could have been better.

"But confidence is growing and we are looking forward to trying to make the most of our two games in hand."

As well as the return of former Rovers skipper Waddock – making his second trip of the season to the Memorial Stadium after visiting with Aldershot earlier in the campaign – the Chairboys will also have a familiar face in goal.

Former Rovers keeper Scott Shearer, who made 47 league appearances for the Pirates between 2005-07, will be between the posts.

"He was a very young keeper when he was here and things didn't work out for him for one reason or another, but he has gone on to do well elsewhere," said Trollope.

"He has been in good form for Wycombe, was involved in their promotion season and has developed into a very good goalkeeper."

Rovers midfielder Dominic Blizzard was due back in training today after a hip problem and could make the bench.
