A Porsche Carrera driver walked away without a scratch after his car crashed to a telegraph pole.

The car spun out of control in Passage Road, Henbury, after a sudden downpour yesterday afternoon.

It smashed into a garden fence and a telegraph pole, knocking both down, at 3.55pm, and despite the force of the impact the driver, who did not wish to be named, got out of the car unhurt.

He told people who came out of their homes to help that the car had aquaplaned on the wet road.

Anna Hill, whose garden fence was the one knocked down but who wasn't home at the time, said: "It was a miracle the driver of the Porsche was not injured."

The road has a 40mph limit, but it is not thought that the Porsche driver was speeding.

Last night residents were waiting for BT to move the broken telegraph pole which was blocking a driveway.

“typical REP gets a company car and he thinks hes at donington i would say ha ha but hes already got a replacement car to go and do the same again,These REPS should have to pay for this out of their own money then maybe they might think about trying to drive like a PRAT”

“I live off the road where this accident happened and saw the AA man doing a std recovery. I have driven this stretch 1000's of times in the heavy snow, rain etc... It is incredibily hard to pull out as people constantly speed 'down' the hill to a busy roundabout and through a pedestrian crossing which neighbours a nursary school. I think we should have speed limits which change with the weather! If this driver wasn't speeding then he/she was very unlucky.
But just to add, i only took interest in the article as it's local. Im sure there are more newsworthy articules in the whole of Bristol....”

“I bet this driver was never a motorcyclist, it's a well known fact that after a long spell of dry. hot weather, when it does rain the road surface is always very slippery.”

“Spacing (distance) between telegraph poles seems to be the issue here, if we increase the distance from pole to pole maybe we would have less collisions and the car would go into the garden instead, creating sensational pictures and a better story.”
