Drinker headbutted Bristol policeman
A binge-drinker must pay £100 compensation to a policeman he headbutted in a drunken rage.
Ricky Nelmes, 21, pleaded guilty to assaulting Sgt Jonathan Allard outside the Chicago Rock Cafe on the Waterfront in the city centre.
Nelmes of Galway Road, Knowle also admitted using threatening words or behaviour in another incident at the waterfront on May 29.
District judge Nigel Hodkinson gave Nelmes a three month prison sentence suspended for 12 months.
Andrea Edwards, prosecuting, said: "Sgt Allard had seen the defendant square up to another officer.
"He grabbed the defendant by both arms and told him to calm down, but he remained very angry and aggressive and was demanding to be let back into Chicago Rock.
"He was arrested. As he was led off he tried to headbutt the officer and his head collided with Sgt Allard's cheekbone."
Anna Van-Wely, defending, said: "He has a problem with binge-drinking. He does not drink at home or during the week but it seems popular with young people to go into town on a weekend, drink and get involved in ugly incidents."
