Dresden raid is still contentious
I FLEW with Bomber Command and did 30 operations as a wireless operator/air gunner.
The raid on Dresden has always been a bone of contention, but it was in response to a request from Russia as it was being used as a staging area for their troops in their war with the Nazis. Churchill, whoM I admired for his efforts during the war, agreed and gave the go ahead.
He used the number of casualties given by the Nazis to try to distance himself from the raid. These were proved to be greatly inflated. But this can still be put right.

“The bravery of those who flew with Bomber Command is not in doubt nor is Sir Winston Churchill's role in the 2nd World War. What remains in doubt is the morality of intentionally targetting civilians in a war. This is why Bomber Command never received a special campaign medal.”
