Billy Downing's brave header was enough to send Imperial Saints through to the third round of the Gloucestershire Under-18 Youth Shield.

Downing flew through a crowd of players to bury the winner 10 minutes from time in a 1-0 victory at Bitton after team-mate Marcus Morgan's shot had cannoned back to him from off the crossbar.

Despite having a player sent off for a two-footed tackle just before half-time, Bitton were unlucky not to take the lead when they hit a post.

At the other end, Mitch Purnell and Dan Carter had clear chances but could only hit the side-netting in one-on-one situations with the goalkeeper.

After Downing had leapt to thump home Saints' winner, Bitton tried desperately to grab an equaliser but Imperial hung on.

Cadbury Heath also went through with a 2-1 victory over Olveston United.

Stoke Lane won 3-2 at Yatton Athletic in an exciting Division I encounter.

Yatton went ahead through Tom Chandler late in the first half, but two goals either side of the interval by Ollie Power put Stoke Lane in front.

Yatton weren't finished and roared back to equalise after their opponents had failed to clear from a goalmouth scramble.

Chances came and went at both ends before Power sealed all three points for Stoke Lane, and completed his hat-trick, with a late winner.

A competitive game between the third and fourth-placed teams in Division A – Hawkesbury and Hanham Athletic – ended in an exciting 3-3 stalemate.

Hanham drew first blood just beore half-time, Ed Parnell tapping in following a cleverly-worked free-kick, and the home side were really up against it when Jamie Coole made it 2-0 moments later.

Hawkesbury started the second half in determined mood and cut the deficit when Will Pitt collected a good through ball inside the area and found the bottom corner of the net with a powerful and precise finish.

Buoyed by the breakthrough, Hawkesbury netted again when keeper Jem Doughty launched the ball upfield for Jamie Evans to run on to and shoot home. Hawkesbury sensed that three points were within their reach and their constant pressure finally paid off, forcing a mistake from the unfortunate Hanham keeper, who gifted Evans a simple tap-in.

Hanham refused to give up, however, and Luke Rossiter found space inside the box to turn in the equaliser in the 93rd minute.

In the Gloucestershire Division, St Nicholas beat 66 Star United 6-2, while Frampton YFC crashed 6-1 at home to Stonehouse.
