SHOPPERS in Downend will be given an insight into the working of the Co-Op at an event organised since the retailer's £1.56 billion acquisition of the Bristol- based Somerfield chain.

The former Downend branch of Somerfield was among the first to be converted into a Co-Op after the deal went through.

The Co-Operative spent £300,000 converting and revamping the store and shoppers became eligible to benefit from its profits share scheme.

That allows members to keep the cash or donate part of it to local causes.

Last year the Co-Op paid out more than £37 million to members and more than £1 million to community groups and organisations.

The Good for Everyone event on Monday, June 8, runs from 7pm to 9pm on Monday, June 8, at Downend Cricket Club

Anyone interested in attending should call Faheem Bhatti on 01884 266892.
