Double triumph for Bristol boxer Richards
Bristol boxer Terry Richards put in a double shift to lift the Western Area welterweight title at Cinderford Miners Club.
Required to box twice in one evening, the National Smelting Company (NSC) stylist proved his durability to win a semi-final and final within the space of a few hours.
Bristolian Richards out-boxed Frome's Mike Rose in the last four and then beat Gloucester's George Reeves on points in the final to qualify for the ABA national quarter-finals, to be staged next year.
Smelters coach Garry Cave said: "Terry deserves credit for doing it the hard way.
"Boxing twice on one show is not easy and eight rounds is more than a lot of professionals do. But he showed his strength and fitness to beat two very good opponents."
Richards is back in action tomorrow night when he takes on Exeter's Faheem Khan on an NSC show at the Pill Memorial Hall (doors open 7pm, first bell 8pm).
Tickets (£10 adults, £5 Under-18s) are available on the door, but can also be booked in advance by calling 07876 233621.
