Double joy for Jake Fisher
Priory School student Jake Fisher claimed a double success at the re-arranged North Somerset Schools' Track & Field Championships held this week.
Competing on a grass track at the priory School, the 15-year-old North Somerset AC athlete won the inter boys' 400m and long jump. Fisher won the 400m in a time of 55.56secs, over two seconds ahead of Churchill's Jay Newbury and then added the long jump title with 5.70m.
Worle School student Ashley Pierson, who also competes for North Somerset AC, won the 100m in 12.1secs
Backwell School's 14-year-old student Bethan Wakefield ran a national standard time of 12.6secs to win the junior girls' 100m, while school-mate Emma Smith made it a double by winning the 200m.
Wakefield also added the long jump title to repeat the success she enjoyed at the Avon Championships last month and continue the fine start she has made to the new season.
There was further success for Backwell School in the high jump with Claire Moss sealing victory with a leap of 1.30m. In the javelin, Churchill School student Megan Coe produced a throw of 25.70m.
Sophie Coghlan won the inter girls' 100m and then helped Backwell School lift the relay title.
All these athletes will now go on to represent North Somerset at the Avon Schools' Championships in Yate next weekend.
