Double honour for Bristol school's green team
Pupils of St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School have had a double boost in their efforts to help the environment.
The school has been rewarded for supporting cycling and has also gained the Eco Schools Silver Award.
St Mary Redcliffe and Temple was the secondary school that had the most entrants in Bristol's Biggest Bike Ride, so was rewarded with a bike fun day that included workshops and activities and a bike breakfast.
Two BMX riders gave a demonstration and pupils got the chance to try out the activity.
Francis Long, 14, of Knowle, said: "It's good to see how you build up to the big tricks."
The school's Green Team, formed two years ago, has worked hard on gaining eco status. It introduced recycling of paper, card and plastic, completed environmental and energy audits of buildings, ran campaigns to reduce power use and introduced an annual green day. Bristol Lord Mayor Councillor Chris Davies presented the awards.
