A drug user from St Paul's has been sentenced to a community order after being found in possession of heroin and cannabis.

Richard Davies, 26, of Brighton Street, admitted possessing the drugs when he appeared before Bristol Magistrates' Court.

Crown Prosecutor Gareth Giddings said police found a small amount of cannabis when they searched Davies' home on June 16 last year. Davies was later arrested and a further small bag of the drug was found on him. A further search of his home then uncovered a bag of heroin. Mr Giddings said that, in total, Davies was in possession of six grams of heroin and two grams of cannabis.

Anne Pitman, defending, said: "The drugs found were consistent with them being for personal use.

"He does need support from probation office to discuss his drug misuse and other things in his life."

Magistrates sentenced Davies to a 12-month community order and told him to pay £60 in court costs.
